 liquid Bog Oak

Ebonizing solution

2 part solution

The pictures are test results showing the ebonizing solution working on a piece of oak, application instructions included.

Please note all woods are different and may produce different results,tannin rich wood such as oak,cherry,alder & many others work great producing a rich black colour that doesn't mask the grain.

Results are amazing!

if you have used this method to ebonize wood before you will know its a lengthy process to prepare the solution, there is a lot of misinformation  online with no clear metrics given.

the metrics used here are sourced from a professor of chemistry &  biochemistry .

product contents

solution one = iron acetate

solution two = tannic acid

 only high quality ingredient used, no corners cut.

(no tea bags used)

the actual test results

Q's & A's

Q = “ is it food safe "

A = this product has not been tested.

Q = “will it work on soft woods”

A = soft woods are not generally tannin rich woods, solution two will add extra tannins but the results will be more a weathered,aged look.

Q = “best wood to use on"

A = there's a big clue in the name.Oak,Cherry & Alder to name a thew. Any wood that's naturally high in tannins work,oak is a favourite.

Q = “what's the shelf life"

A = store away from extreme heat & cold it should last month's maybe even longer.

Q = “can i sand over when dry”

A = absolutely, go for it you may like the results.

Q = “can i use the solutions over a wax or oiled finish"

A = no!,this will only act as barrier between the wood and the solutions so will not work. The grain needs to be exposed for the solution to work.

Q = “what's in the solutions "

A = good question, solution one is iron acetate made from distilled white vinegar & steel wool prepared using metrics to achieve the best results. Solution two is tannic acid prepared with dry ground oak bark and a pinch of.............tannic acid powder.

Q = “is it easy to make"

A = it's easy when you know how, think of making a cup of tea and waiting until it's perfect not to weak and not to strong just by the colour and the length of time brewing. As I have found,the internet is packed with misinformation and no clear metrics are given.
